Market Access and Quality Systems Manager

Job Purpose

The Market Access and Quality Systems Manager is a senior leadership position, reporting to the Regional Manager Europe and leads the Quality Assurance and Compliance team to implement and achieve the required ZGS Europe orchard to market excellence targets. With effective management of the team of thirteen, the Market Access and Quality Systems Manager will play a critical role in the achievement of ZGS Europe’s five year growth strategy to acheive 25 million class one trays of Sungold and 15 million trays of Hayward by 2022. The DIFOTIS (delivery in full, on time and in specification) and market compliance goals are at the heart of this role to ensure ZGS Europe delivers fruit of the same quality, customer and consumer satisfaction as that achieved out of New Zealand. Through close collaboration with our European suppliers (post harvest operators) this role will be responsible for ensuring Zespri class l quality production of G3, G14 and Hayward varietals from the 2950 producing hectares for shipment to Zespri markets worldwide during the ZGS northern hemisphere season Nov to April each year.

Accountabilities

  • Develop and improve the quality and compliance functions with European supply partners.
  • Develop audit strategy with Quality Assurance and Supply Chain Managers.
  • Lead and manage the compliance and QA teams in the execution of all quality and compliance related SOPs including spray diary, residues and market access protocols.
  • Manage ZGS Quality Assurance Manager and ensure that Zespri quality systems are adhered to by all suppliers and that they function as designed for delivery of fruit to market within Zespri standards.
  • Manage the Compliance and Market Access Advisor and Crop Protection and Biosecurity Advisor and all operations relating to compliance with Crop Protection Programmes (CPP), MRL tolerances, international regulation and Zespri customer and market requirements.
  • Liaise regularly with NZ based quality managers to ensure ZGS remains up to date and consistently compliant with changing global market standards.
  • In collaboration with Supply Chain Manager and Quality Assurance Manager build a relationship with ZGS suppliers’ quality and post-harvest management teams to build improved processes and outputs for optimal class I packouts.
  • Liaise with ZGS Pre and Post Harvest Operations Manager to ensure timely and accurate information flow for all fruit quality or market restrictions issues.
  • Liaise with ZGS Supply Chain Manager to minimise any quality or compliance related market restrictions and assist with timely market communication in each direction.
  • Assist Supply Chain Manager with communication to suppliers regarding fruit quality in market.
  • Build a strong rapport with key phytosanitary departments in each ZGS EU country of origin.
  • Build a strong rapport with each of the Operations Managers to ensure quick response to intercheck and market claim resolution.

Qualifications

  • Appropriate tertiary qualification (preferred)

Technical Capability

  • Exceptional management ability (proven autonomy and team approach)
  • Proven government and compliance relationship management skills
  • Experience with process development and implementation, HACCP and other quality control systems
  • Minimum five years’ experience with fruit and/or vegetable post harvest supply chain (kiwifruit experience preferred)
  • Experience with international market access regulations (e.g. European Commission and US EPA MRLs)
  • Quality systems management experience farm to shelf essential
  • Familiarity with Global GAP, Grasp and BRC
  • Highly developed computer skills (Word, Advanced Excel, SAP
  • Fluent in English and Italian language – written and oral. French and Spanish an advantage
  • Flexibility to work in locations in Italy and Europe, and internationally as required
  • Flexibility on work hours, particularly through the main season October – January. Some weekend work will be required, and out of hour’s accessibility by phone/email required especially through the main season
